A Fight for Health, Hope, and the Simple Right to Feel Safe at Home

Sometimes, life changes so dramatically that the things we once took for granted become the very things we desperately need.

For Paul, something as simple as entering his own home has become an overwhelming obstacle.

Paul is facing a devastating medical crisis. Complications from diabetes, serious wounds, vascular disease, and kidney failure have left him unable to walk and dependent on lifesaving dialysis treatments.

After a difficult hospitalization, Paul wanted what most of us would want: to go home, rest, and be surrounded by people who love him.

But returning home brought another heartbreaking reality.

Paul could not even get through his own front door.

His family had repeatedly expressed concerns that their home was not wheelchair accessible. There was no ramp, no safe way to navigate the entrance, and no practical way for his loved ones to physically assist him.

When medical transportation brought Paul home following his hospital discharge, the transport crew was unable to safely get him inside.

The fire department had to be called. They responded to help get Paul into his home.

Imagine the heartbreak of watching someone you love endure so much medically, only to discover that getting them safely inside their own home requires emergency responders.

And getting inside was only the beginning.

A Family Facing Impossible Challenges

Paul's medical needs are extensive, and his road ahead remains uncertain.

He requires ongoing dialysis, specialized wound care, medical transportation, and assistance with basic daily activities.

Yet he was discharged without workable arrangements for the home care, transportation, wound care and general nursing care and SAFETY he desperately needs.

His sister, Penny, has fought tirelessly to advocate for him.

Penny is the sole breadwinner in her household, working six to seven days a week while also caring for a family facing significant challenges. Both her husband and son are disabled.

Now she is desperately trying to find a way to ensure that her brother receives the care he needs.

How does someone who cannot walk get to lifesaving dialysis appointments when there is no wheelchair ramp?

How does he safely leave his home in an emergency?

Who will help meet his medical and personal needs while his sister is working to keep the family financially afloat?

These are not simply inconveniences.

They are serious concerns involving Paul's health, safety, and well-being.

And this family cannot solve them alone.

Our First Priority: A Safe Way In and Out

One of Paul's most urgent needs is wheelchair accessibility.

The estimated cost of making the home wheelchair accessible is approximately $7,000 - $11,000.

That is a tremendous financial burden for a family already struggling with medical expenses and the challenges of caring for loved ones with disabilities.

But the needs do not end with a wheelchair ramp.

Paul also faces expenses associated with medical transportation, wound-care supplies, home assistance, ongoing medical treatment, and other necessities.

Without health insurance, obtaining these services has become even more difficult.

This Is Where Compassion Can Change a Life

At Compassion Connection of Texas, we believe that no individual facing a medical crisis should have to face it without compassion, dignity, and support.

We cannot erase everything Paul and his family have experienced.

We cannot take away his illness or the uncertainty surrounding his future.

But together, we can help remove some of the barriers standing between Paul and the care he needs.

Your generosity can help provide:

Wheelchair accessibility: An estimated $7,000 - $10,000 to create safer access to and from his home.

Medical transportation: Assistance with transportation to essential dialysis treatments and medical appointments.

Medical necessities: Help with wound-care supplies, medications, and other healthcare expenses.

Home assistance: Support for appropriate in-home care and daily living needs.

Family relief: Assistance with urgent needs arising from this medical crisis.

Every Act of Kindness Matters

Perhaps you can give $10, $25, $50, or more.

Perhaps you cannot contribute financially but can share Paul's story with someone who can.

Every act of kindness matters.

When a community comes together, what seems impossible for one family can become possible through the generosity of many.

Paul is not asking for luxuries.

He needs safe access to his home.

He needs a way to receive essential medical treatment.

He needs the dignity and security that every human being deserves.

And his family needs to know they are not facing this crisis alone.

Please Help Us Help Paul

Today, we are asking our community to come together and show Paul and his family that compassion still exists, that kindness still matters, and that people are willing to reach out when someone is struggling.

Our immediate goal is to help address the approximately $10,000 needed for wheelchair accessibility, while also seeking support for Paul's continuing medical and personal care needs.

If you are able to contribute, please consider making a donation.

If you cannot donate, please share Paul's story.

And if you are someone who believes in the power of prayer, we ask that you keep Paul and his family in your prayers as they navigate the difficult days ahead.

Sometimes, the greatest gift we can give another human being is the reassurance that they have not been forgotten.

Together, we can help Paul find a little more safety, comfort, dignity, and hope.

With heartfelt gratitude,
